The Story
Vintage 1960s Rainbow Stripe Terry Cloth Hostess Dress Plush Towel Maxi Patio Gown in one size. This piece is a dream and a rare one. It is an open fit. Fitted with a rope tie- dress can be worn with it on or off. Dress could potentially be worn either way backwards or forwards as a gown style. Has crochet lace cuffs at the end of lightweight nylon or a nylon like fabric
This is the sweetness of the 1960s “hostess” or “patio” dress, a style that came forth as home entertaining became a big part of mid century social life. These garments were designed to be more formal than loungewear but more comfortable than a cocktail dress, allowing a woman to entertain guests with ease
This style evolved from the 1950s “house coat” into something far more colorful and expressive as the 1960s progressed. The combination of the sleeves and the stripes historically notes the decade’s growing love for folk style. Contrasting colors were super popular and hip influenced by the op artistic movement in the mid 60s
