The Story
❤️Vtg 50s Mommy and Me Party Dress Set | Iridescent Plum Polka Dot ❤️
Capture some mid-century beauty with a lovely “Mommy and Me” duo dress set! Dating from the late 1940s to the early 1950s, this wartime-period set is a rare historic set of an era. Both pieces are crafted from a luxurious iridescent taffeta in a deep, shimmering plum burgundy. it has a “itty-bitty” polka dot pattern that makes it quite whimsical.
The Mother’s Dress
This dress is a masterclass in the late 40s early 50s “New Look” style. The bodice is beautifully tailored with a nipped-in waist and shoulder pads. The Collar has a dramatic, wide-pointed lapel forming a graceful V-neckline. has Charming roll back sleeves cuffed style and really neat oversized patch pockets. The Skirt is a slightly full, flared skirt that moves with a lovely rustle, perfect for pairing with your favorite vintage heels. the closure is the original metal zipper it zips down the front for easy wear.
The Daughter’s Dress
The matching girl’s dress is absolutely darling. It matches the adult version but adds sweet, age-appropriate details. The collar is a gorgeous scalloped capelet collar that drapes over the shoulders.
Craftsmanship: I have lovingly hand-sewn the closure hook back of the girls dress to ensure it is secure and ready for a new generation to enjoy.
Measurements & Fit Notes
In true 1950s fashion, these dresses were meant to create a specific silhouette. Interestingly, both dresses share a 28″ waist. Because girls’ sizing in the mid-century (Sizes 10-12) was often more “tubular” and straight-cut before reaching womanhood, the measurements align perfectly for a small/medium adult and a pre teen daughter.
